There is no secret about my love for Delilah products. I did a bunch of reviews in the past covering their lipstick, bronzer, blush, primer etc, all of which I’m loving, so this little gem got me really excited. I love me some good highlight and this was one of the products that immediately landed in my shopping bag, no second thoughts.
And I’m glad I wasn’t uuumming and oohing about it for too long, like I sometimes do, as it turns out it’s already sold out!!!! But the good news is, it is coming back in February next year, so there will be a chance to grab one if this is something you want to add to your collection. So with this in mind, I though I’d still go ahead with the review.
I’ll briefly mention the packaging, because it turns out that the very presentable box it came in, together with a mini powder brush was a limited edition and will no longer be available. I guess the highlighter will be sold on its own. It’s a shame, but I guess it will still come in its velvety pouch and a small box as other Delilah items do, but without the festive packaging, so no big deal, really. Delilah is known for their simple yet very classy and chic compacts and this one is no exception.
Still kept in their signature colours, but this time the main colour is rose gold with gunmetal detailing, with the name embossed in the middle (it’s the compact on the right). I personally really like these simple but at the same time very luxurious looking cases, and I’m glad that this one is rose gold for a change. It just adds a somewhat softer touch to it, with this lovely pale pink shade. The bronzer and blush come in a gunmetal/pewter (I hate this word, by the way..) colour with rose gold detailing (the compact on the left).
The highlight looks like a mosaic of very soft peach, light gold and pale pink shades. When swatched, the shade is predominantly soft golden, I could not really detect any peach or pink in it. It is an absolutely beautiful gold shade. I am not a fan of snow white type of highlighters, so this is definitely right up my street. It’s a warm, golden beautifulness that makes me look healthy and gives just the right amount of glow.
Compared to other well known highlights out there, it probably sits somewhere in between Kevyn Aucoin ‘Candlelight’ and Mac ‘Soft & Gentle’ in terms of intensity, so nothing too over the top. In terms of colour it’s the most yellow, golden tone out of the ones I swatched here. You can control the intensity (just like with any other highlighter) using either a softer brush, such as Real Techniques duo fiber contour brush, or for a more visible effect, use one with more dense bristles. I use the mini brush provided and although it’s technically supposed to be a powder brush, for my combo skin, it’s too dense to use as ‘all over the face’ with this type of illuminator.
The product can be used as all over powder to add some healthy but still subtle luminosity to the face and brighten the skin. It looks absolutely stunning. I’d still suggest a very soft application, small amount of powder, and with a fluffy powder brush. Or switch onto more dense, highlighter brush for some cheekbone action, and you’ve got yourself a dual purpose compact. I did use it as a powder, all over the face, with matte base foundation, and it looked really beautiful.
I have combo skin, but definitely don’t shy away from using some illuminators all over my face and I love the effect it gives. So far I would only use Hourglass ‘ Luminous Light’ and now I also have this one, which I love too. Especially this time of year, when my skin isn’t crazy oily.
I am thoroughly enjoying this highlighter. The shade is really lovely and I like the soft glow it gives. It’s subtle enough to be used all over the face , but it can still give this ‘wet look’ on my cheekbones if used with a right brush. I honestly didn’t think it would work for both uses, but it totally does. Delilah impressed me once again and I think it’s safe to say that this really is a brand I can trust when it comes to high quality. If you like highlighters and you have a chance to get this when it comes out again next year, go for it, it’s beautiful.
