Ever since I remember, I have always had short hair, as I found it easier to maintain and felt much comfortable with my ears covered.

Over the past year or so, I started really enjoying having my hair a bit longer (it is now about couple of inches pass the shoulder length) and having an option of putting it in a messy bun, or just a simple, sleek pony tail. But with longer hair comes the real struggle of brushing it…

My hair can get extremely tangled and very difficult to brush. Regardless of how ‘gently’ I wash and dry it, it makes no difference. I literally break into sweat trying to work my brush through it without causing any major damage. So I have tried some products over time to see if there is anything that will make washing and brushing my wet hair a bit less painful, literally.

At the same time, I didn’t want to use too much or too heavy products so it wouldn’t weight my hair down or make it greasy quicker.

After months of trying and testing different shampoos, oils, conditioners that would work but not break the bank, I have finally managed to narrow it down to two products and one brush.

These are truly my ‘cannot live without’ items and they travel with me everywhere!!!

I haven’t quite managed to find a shampoo that would significantly contribute to detangling my hair, so I just use the ones I have always been using and start the process from there.

John Masters Organics Citrus & Neroli Detangler

John Masters Organics Citrus & Neroli Detangler

This can be used either as a wash-off or leave in conditioner. I usually leave it for about 3-5 minutes and rinse. It is very lightweight but it contains some oils, hence I prefer to wash it off (I use different product as a leave in conditioner, see my previous post on Living Proof No Frizz).

I can feel my hair getting less tangled and I am able to run my fingers through it for the most part, while I wash off the conditioner. It smells fresh, zesty and citrusy. It contains natural soy proteins and essential oils of grapefruit, lemon and neroli. It can be used on all hair types, including fine hair and retails at RRP £16 for a large 236ml bottle. It’s available on

Original Sprout Miracle Detangler

Original Sprout Miracle Detangler

This is the little bottle of goodness. It is Amazing!!! I spray it sparingly through my damp hair before brushing and then run through my hair with my fingers to make sure it’s evenly coated. Honestly, it makes brushing so quick, with no pain or struggle. Once I’m done, there is literally just a few hair in my brush, which is unavoidable, as opposed to a whole bunch. I love it!!! I cannot be without it!!! The product is extremely gentle, fragrance free and worry free. It can be used for babies, children and adults, so if you are struggling to brush you little munchkin’s hair, this may be the answer for you.

It leaves a slight texture on my hair if I happen to spray too much, it doesn’t really bother me and has no effect on the final look once it dries, but you could always just run a towel through the hair once it’s brushed to remove any remains of the product. It is truly THE best thing I have tried to date and I officially cannot be without. It comes in a handy spray bottle, either 118ml at RRP £12.50 or larger size of 354ml which retails at RRP £17.50

This product is available at BeautyBay.

Detangler Brush

Last, but not least, is a brush that I am loving and want in every colour!! And there is plenty to choose from, by the way. It works through damp hair with ease. No pulling, tugging or crying for that matter. It just makes brushing easy and effortless, as it should always be. It is designed to be used on both wet or dry hair. The bristles are very soft and don’t hurt my scalp when I happen to brush more vigorously.

I do have a couple of tangle teezers, but I find the ones with no handle uncomfortable to use and never got round purchasing the handled version as I found the Wet Brush is giving me much better results.  I really recommend this one, wether you’re struggling with brushing your hair, or just simply need to update your hair brush and fancy something other than black. They are available on BeautyBay here and retail at RRP £11.99 – £14.99 They have both the standard as well as mini travel versions.

I am extremely happy with these products and can honestly say, I am no longer dreading washing my hair like I used to. Still, it is probably not the most enjoyable beauty ‘activity’, but it now goes much quicker, fuss free and, most importantly, painless.

All above products are very affordable, yet very effective and definitely worth trying. I hope this post helps you, if you struggle with your unruly mane. As always, if you have any questions, suggestions, or have used something you think is worth trying, share it, so we can all learn.
