I really don’t want to become one of those people stating the obvious every month, but I seriously cannot believe it’s already June!!! It’s unbelievable how time flies!!! It’s been a very busy month for me but definitely in a good way. I managed to settle a bit more in my new job and dare I say it… I really quite enjoy it. New place, new people, new challenges, slight change of lifestyle is exactly what I needed.
I never really thought I’d have time to grab a coffee and some breakfast and sit down in a coffee shop before work, relax, think and motivate myself for the day ahead (while still being the very first person in the office, by the way…) Little things and completely irrelevant to some people, but to me, they make my day and set the right tone from the early morning. This is definitely my first favourite of the past month and many months ahead I hope. Those ‘moments’ during the day that allow me to slow down, put my thoughts together and start with positive attitude.
I also now seem to be surrounded with the likes of Space NK, Molton Brown and many other temptations. Ironically, having all those shops around me makes me want to go shopping even less than ever before. I seriously changed the way I look at buying makeup and although I haven’t set any ground rules of ‘No Buy’ or what not, it came really quite naturally and gradually to me. I’ve been enjoying shopping my stash and using what I have, so all of last month’s makeup favourites and mainly oldies but goodies…
Starting with eye shadow palettes, these two have definitely dominated my makeup routine in May. I’ve had this Dior ‘Grege’ palette for a long time now, and it’s been very well loved, as you can see. I love how beautifully and effortlessly these shadows apply and blend. This has always been my ‘go to’ palette for a very quick, 5 minute makeup that still looked polished and perfect. This may have been a limited edition, as it’s no longer widely available, but I’d very highly recommend Dior shadows in general. They’re absolutely stunning.
I won’t talk too long about Urban Decay and Gwen Stefani palette, as I’ve done a separate blog with swatches Here, but this was, and as I’m typing this early June, still is my most used eyeshadow palette. Just simply beautiful.
This Chanel ‘Rose Pétale’ blush was my favourite by far and since I haven’t been using it for a while (again, benefits of shopping my own stash…) I’ve just recently rekindled my love for it. The pigmentation is just right, it’s very easy to apply and never looks like it’s too much. It gives the most fresh and healthy glow to my cheeks and still smells amazing even after all those months. I also like that it’s not too powdery and I don’t have to be too careful when applying it. I give my blush brush a good swirl in the product and it picks up just the perfect amount every time. Very easy to build up the intensity, but also perfect for just this gentle wash of colour.
This cream blush from Dior in 765 ‘Cosmopolite Rosewood’ wasn’t as popular as Chanel blush last month, but I did use it quite a bit so it definitely deserves a mention. I didn’t like it at first. To be honest, my first thought when I bought it was ‘and why exactly did you waste your money on that’… I just generally prefer powder blushes. Although I do have a couple of cream products, I don’t tend to reach for them as often and I thought this would be shoved to the back of my draw and forgotten about. But,no. I pulled it out about mid April and have been really enjoying using it every now and then. It’s so easy to apply and looks so natural on the cheeks. I use it with Real Techniques stippling brush and love the way it looks. This packs quite a punch so light hand is needed, but since it’s a cream formula, it’s very easy to blend, even when a bit too much is applied. Great product for summer months.
The month of May carried a scent of Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. I could not put this perfume down, it’s absolutely gorgeous an seriously addictive. I’ve only recently got this, but it may just become one of those scents I’ll be repurchasing over and over again. It’s quite strong with oriental notes but also carries some fresh notes and the two extremes mix just perfectly together. It lasts on my skin entire day without having to reapply and I absolutely love it. I’ve had quite a few compliments from people when I wear it but most importantly, it makes Me feel good when I have it on. That’s what scents are all about.
This foundation isn’t just last month’s favourite, it’s pretty much one of my holy grail foundations of all times. Period. I’ve gone through a number of bottles and always have to have it in rotation. I do have a number of different bases I like to use, but this was the most used foundation of last month. What can I say, It’s just The Best. It covers like a dream, lasts on my combo skin for a really long time, doesn’t get cakey, doesn’t slide down my face at the end of the hot and humid day and it’s one of not many foundations that doesn’t transfer too easily on my clothes (or someone else’s for that matter…) I honestly don’t care it has no pump, the product itself is what matters. If you’re looking for a long lasting, full coverage foundation and haven’t tried this one yet, give it a go!
This is probably one of my most recent makeup purchases. I bought this a couple of months ago and I’m so glad I did. If I was to lose all my highlighters and just be left with this palette, I’d be very happy. The formula is fantastic and gives this almost wet look to my cheeks, which I love. It has no glitter or shimmer, just this amazing, beautiful sheen. It looks stunning, especially in summer on sun kissed skin.
I haven’t used the ‘Golden Bronze’ just yet, because I think I need a bit more tan for this one, but all the other shades look gorgeous on my light-medium complexion and aren’t ‘too much’ if that makes sense. It’s a strong highlight in general, so if you prefer something very subtle, this may not be one for you. I’ve been using it on a daily basis and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. It’s definitely going on holiday with me this year, wherever that will be…
I’m still very much in love with my Chanel Bronze Universal and have been using it non stop for the past couple of months, also included it in my last month’s favourites. Since I’ve started self tanning recently, I can get away with a bit more bronzer and really like using Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil on top of my Chanel. I’ve been using full coverage foundations lately and love adding some colour back to my face by using blush and bronzer. This bronzer is quite light and adds just a bit of warmth to my face. Perfect for every day makeup. Not to mention, it smells amazing, like cocoa powder and milk chocolate. What’s not to like?
My last, non makeup related favourite is the pair of Valentino Rockstud flats. I’ve been staring at these shoes for as long as I remember, never quite being able to justify the expense. They were a gift from my partner as a ‘good luck in your new job’ occasion. I’ve been wearing them a lot last month and I absolutely love them!!! They go so well with pretty much everything I wear and add this edgy look to the outfit. I wear them with distressed jeans and more formal outfits and they look great will both. Although all the other colours are beautiful too, I thought I’d get the most wear out of the the simple, classic black pair. I couldn’t be happier with these beauties.
That’s it!! I know it’s been a lot, so if you’re still reading up to this point, well done!! You’re a trooper and I really appreciate it xxx Let me know what your monthly favourites were/are. Any products you think I should try?
