I’m sooo not a morning person!!! I don’t function too well very early in the morning (for me early morning starts at about 4.30-5.00 am, so pretty darn early) and I need my skincare routine to be quick, no fuss and to the point. I posted my evening routine recently, which contained many more products and required much more time, but that’s fine. That’s when I use my Clarisonic, apply some mask and what not. I totally enjoy it because I don’t have to rush.
Morning, however, is a challenge. Don’t get me wrong, I try not to skip any step and make sure my skin is clean and comfortable before the layer of makeup covers it, but it needs to happen pretty fast. Below products are what I’m using at the moment and what works for me, but I often switch and like to try new creams or cleansers, so I cannot say I’m completely faithful to all of them. Having said that, there is a few favourites that deserve a special mention.
Once I finally managed to drag myself to the bathroom, and right after I brushed my teeth, I get on with cleaning my face. I don’t use Clarisonic in the morning, I don’t feel the need to, but I really like to use a cleanser with gentle exfoliating beads. My skin is oily combo, so it feels refreshed and the layer of oil and remains of nighttime skincare is completely removed with gentle exfoliation. I love Neutrogena visibly clear pink grapefruit daily scrub, it’s by far one of my favourites. Not too abrasive, cleans very well and smells great and fresh too. Not to mention, it’s very inexpensive. This one is always in my rotation and I keep repurchasing. Really good stuff.
To switch things a bit and just so I don’t get bored with the same cleanser over and over, I also have been using Michael Todd’s Charcoal Detox Deep Pore Cleansing Gel. This one has no exfoliating beads but it really doesn’t have to. It is such an amazing cleanser. In the morning, it leaves my face literally squeaky clean, and when I use it in the evening, it completely removes entire face of makeup to the point, that I could probably leave it like that and just follow with a moisturiser. That’s how clean it is!!!
Seriously, if you have oily or acne prone skin, wear makeup often or daily and you’re looking for a good cleanser, you really want to give this a try. It does what it says on a tin, it melts away makeup to a T. Fantastic!!! One thing thought, I have not used it on my eyes, and it doesn’t look like something that should be used directly on the eye, so just bear this in mind. I sometimes add a tiny bit of Michael Todd Jojoba Charcoal facial Scrub to it, but it’s because I like how the scribes feel, definitely not because I have to. The cleanser does an amazing job on its own.
Moving on to a serum / treatment / something else to that effect. I currently use this Ultimate Dark Spot Corrector from Lancome. I’ve only used it for about 2 weeks and I’m far from singing its praises just yet. I’m also yet to see any noticeable difference in the appearance of my skin and reduction of dark spots. I like the texture and the sweet scent to it. It applies really nicely and absorbs instantly. I’ll continue using and will let you know later how/if I liked it.
To moisturise my skin I’ve been using this Biotherm Skin-Best cream, which I love. I did mention it sometime ago, in my winter skincare essentials post. This cream is so perfect for colder weather. It worked a treat for me during winter and I’m still using it now. It’s thicker in consistency which gives my skin a much needed moisture boost, but it’s far from being too thick or too heavy for my oily combo skin. It’s a perfect medium and I will definitely buy again. This guy is quite hard to find, so I normally repurchase on duty free. My other go-to moisturiser lately has been Genifique from Lancome. This one is just a bit thinner, but moisturises well and leaves my skin feeling plump and smooth, which I really like.
For eye cream, I’ve been using the same product as I mentioned in my evening routine. It’s Repairwear Laser Focus from Clinique. I love this eye cream, great for evening and morning, not too heavy, absorbs quickly and it’s great under makeup. I don’t rush with applying makeup right after doing my skincare, I take a shower etc, so the cream has a bit of time to absorb. I also see noticeable difference in the depth of lines around my eyes. They seem smoother and not as visible. I’m almost out of it, and although I love it, I’m also tempted to try something new, so we’ll see how it goes.
Now, this next item is not part of my morning routine during the week, but it is one I treat myself to every Sunday morning, so I thought I would include it here too. It’s a Goddess Skin Clay Mask from Charlotte Tilbury. I like using it in the morning because it really leaves my skin baby smooth and very soft. To be honest, I don’t notice too much difference in the appearance of my pores when I use it, but I need something more heavy duty for that. The smell is very calming and the little face massage that they recommend to do before removing the mask is just what the doctor ordered to make me even more relaxed. The product feels luxurious, smells very pleasant and doesn’t dry to this uncomfortable, tight, mask-like feeling, so I often leave it on for a bit longer. Doing it on Sunday allows me to follow with some skincare and leave my face makeup free for the day, to let my skin breathe a little.
That’s all the current products I’ve been using and enjoying in the morning. It may seem like there is a lot again, but the whole face takes me literally less that 10 minutes (except Sundays of course) which is definitely doable even for as early as 4.30 wakeup call. xxx
